Description

Professionals around the world have dedicated their practice to making a positive difference in the workplace using a science-based approach unlike any other— organizational behavior management (OBM). With deep roots in industrial engineering and behaviorism, OBM tackles business-world challenges with precision and focus to help organizations achieve superior performance.

In a world where businesses are growing, merging, producing products faster and leaner than ever before, and talent is developed through innovative learning techniques, the needs of managers to ensure successful performance management is greater than ever. Since the early 70’s, OBM has fostered applied and laboratory

research to study human dynamics in the workplace, solving problems in areas such as safety, productivity, customer service, quality, process improvement, training and development, revenue and profitability, and employee satisfaction. Grounded by the concepts and principles of behavior analysis, evolving the core theorems from industrial engineering and business, and focusing on application to solving socially significant business needs, the OBM practitioner has become a vital member of organizations worldwide.

This book is dedicated to the individuals who call themselves OBM practitioners, scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students. It is a book several years in the making as I have grown as a scientist-practitioner, entrepreneur, educator, and a forever student. With over twenty years of experience, multiple mentors who are gurus in the field, and learning from colleagues and clients alike, I am honored to have had the opportunity to write this book. I have organized the book to ensure some core concepts, principles, and application methodologies are covered. Unlike other books, I focused here on the practitioner.

Each chapter includes various concepts and principles of OBM, examples, and we go beyond the basics to ensure the reader gains a whole perspective of what it means to be an OBM practitioner. The end of this book tackles ethics and the OBM practitioner and includes ethical guidelines for the OBM practitioner. Writing these ethical guidelines for OBM practitioners is to support the practitioner being ethical, thinking through their role, and protecting others. The role of an OBM practitioner is quite simple yet complicated in practice – making a positive difference in the workplace. That is what we do, that is why we do what we do, and we can make a difference.
